How do I see what files a user has checked out, copied out, or exported without being on the users computer.
Background
I need to find out what files some of my users have checked out, copied out, or exported and on which computer the files are located.
Steps to Accomplish
Option 1 Use the search form to search.
- In ProjectWise Explore, Create a veiw that includes the basic columns of "Out to" and "Node"
- Click the Binocculars to launch the search wizard and choose search form.
On the General page find the "Out to" pull down and choose the users login name.
Make sure you are searching the entire datasource.
Click apply and okay. Make sure you are using the view you created to see the results
Option 2 Use the Local Document Organizer
- Log in to ProjectWise Explorer as Admin, or a user who is part of the Administrator Group on any computer.
Go to Tools, Local Document Organizer.
There should be three pull down menu options; Datasource, Node, and User
Choose the Node (computer name) the user uses, and the users login name. The list of files the user has out on the machine you choose will appear in the results pain.

Problem
user is getting error 7602290 error creating document\folder and error deleting document\Folder when trying to create or delete a file from this one directory.
Solution
checked that the storage area existed and has files in it.
No lock files where found
setup logging, restarted integration service
reproduced the problem and user sent in logs.
I found in the logs indicates that the space quota was exceeded for the tablespace
012-07-24 14:57:35,628 ERROR [0x00001cf4] pwise.database.odbc - Error 1536 "ODBC ERROR: HY000: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01536: space quota exceeded for tablespace 'PW_DATA'" reported at func: dsqlOdbc_execDirect line: 1117
It is trying to write to the dms_audt table and failing
DBA fixed the issue with the tablespace quota and that solved the problem.

Error or Warning Message
Not enough space on drive C:\ to extract this package
Explanation
A user has downloaded the Projectwise Client Setups and when launching the executable gets an error that there is not enough disk space to extract the package. The user has plenty of disk space so this should not be a problem.
How to Avoid
Option 1: Confirm there is enough disk space on the system
For Projectwise Client setups you will need at least 1.5 gigs of disk space
Check that your system's temp directory is located on a disk with enough free space. You can view and change where your temp directory is pointing to by going to Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings, Environment Variables, then under User Variables and System Variables look for TEMP and TMP.
Option 2: Reboot the system
- Rebooting will clear up the available address space available on the machine, which is usually what causes this error
Option 3: Unzip the package using a different extraction program (7-zip)
Use 7-Zip to extract the pacakge which is a free extraction program you can download from the internet.
Once 7-Zip is installed, right click on the Projectwise Client setups exe and choose 7-Zip, extract the files to a folder on your hard drive
- Once the files are extracted, go to the folder you extracted the files to and run the setup.exe. This should bring up a menu for you to choose which client program you wish to install.
Option 4: Re- Download the Projectwise Client setups
It may be possible that the Projectwise Client Setups package was not full downloaded and is corrupt. Try downloading the package again.

Explanation
User is trying to copy a file from a camera (that is connected via usb to the computer) into projectwise and is getting the following error. Last Error [50132] Error creating new document. The file does not exist.
How to Avoid
Open Windows Explorer and click on This PC
Under Devices and Drives you will see your camera or phone.
However this is a Device and not a Drive.
You can tell because it does not give it a drive letter and the icon is not the same as the hard drive.
ProjectWise will not accept files from a device.. only from an actual drive.Drag the files from the device to the hard drive then from the hard drive to ProjectWise

DMS Convert
The dmsconvert utility is used to migrate the database schema of an existing ProjectWise database to meet the requirements of ProjectWise V8i. This utility is delivered with the ProjectWise Integration Server installation.
This technote is meant to save you time investigating typical install issues prior to calling Support.
Before performing the DMS Convert:
1. Make sure everything is checked in! This includes 08.11.05.xx and 08.11.07.xx versions.
2 . In your pre-dms convert production environment, make sure the PW Admin "God" account has Access Control unchecked. This is done via the PW Administrator in the User Properties.
3. PW Admin must have Full Control to ALL the folders at the Datasource level.
4. Create a new back-up copy of your production database.
During the DMS Convert:
If the DMS convert fails, start again with a new "fresh" backed-up copy of the database.
*** You cannot run another convert on the same database that just failed; it WILL fail on every subsequent attempt.***
After DMS Convert:
To avoid other issues such as performance degradation, the following are typical DBA functions that should be performed after your dms convert.
• Make sure that the statistics are updated. **Specifically to Oracle, TSG has seen significant performance loss when the statistics are not updated after a convert.
• General database maintenance should be performed and scheduled regularly.
• Databases (ProjectWise and OF) should be backed up periodically.

SQL 2008
If you do a DMSCONV on a SQL 2008 database without SP1, you may possibly get an error.
There have been a few reported cases where this has occurred. Once SP1 was installed, all went well.
SQL 2008 with PW 08.11.05.37 (Do not use NT Authentication) to connect
If using the delivered SQL Express you will need to change the Server Authentication to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode." By default, SQL Express is set to "Windows Authentication Mode."
To perform this action:
o Open up the SQL Server Management Studio
o Log in with your Windows credentials
o Right click the Server name>properties>Security and you will see the radio buttons at the top.
o Change that to SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode and you can log in with a SQL Server account.
o Make sure you set a password for the sa account if you are using that username.

Error or Warning Message
Error 55038: Failed to create a storage. File access security check failed.
Explanation
This error message can also appear when trying to create or access a file on a storage area. The message would then say failed to create file..
In most cases the problem is a DNS problem on the network. The DNS was configured with the Ip address and the FQDN and may not include an entry for the host name or vise versa.
How to Avoid
Option 1: Check that port 5800 is open bi-dirctionaly and that you can ping the FQDN and Host name from the destination and source computers.
User the \ Programs \ Bentley \ Projectwise \ Tools \ User tools \ Windows Socket Analyzer or...
Use Telnet from each machine to see connectivity between servers
Telnet MyServer.Bentley.com 5800
Telnet MyServer 5800
Ping the FQDN and host name from both computers to see if you get the same ipadress or even a response.
Option 2: Check the dmskrnl.cfg file for incorrect or resrtictive entries.
- On the server ..Program files\Bentley\Projectwise\Bin open the dmsknrl.cfg file.
- Look for any entries that might include Allow or Deny and make sure the computer you are trying to reach is not listed under a Deny statement.
- Check for spelling of the computer name and that any entries with IP addresses are correct
- If you suspect that there is a DNS issue, add the host name and the FQDN to the [Routing] section.
- MyServer = 5800
- MyServer.Bentley.com = 5800
Option 3: Make sure the Caching Server Service is running.
- On the Caching server where the file storage area lives ..go to services and check to see if the ProjectWise Caching server service is running.
- Restart the caching server services to see if that makes a difference
Option 4: Check that there are no restrictive permissions on the integration servers install path.
- On the Integration server and Caching servers go to the installation directories. By default they are C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise and C:\Program Files(86)\Bentley\ProjectWise
- Check that there are no restrictive permissions for these folders and their subfolders.

Problem
User cannot open converted AutoCAD files in ProjectWise, but can open them outside of ProjectWise. Getting error "Cannot locate a default shx font. Please Install msdefault.shx. Program must now exit".
Solution
MicroStation V8i added a new folder and variable that points to the folder. Workspace\system\fonts\ was added to MicroStation V8i. This folder contains the default fonts to be used when a font used in the drawing can not be found. The variable MS_FONTPATH should be pointing to this directory.
You need to check the variable to verify that it is set correctly and then check the folder to verify that is does exist and the default fonts exist in the folder.

How to delete the active version of a file with versions
Applies To | |||

Environment: | N/A | ||

Problem
How to delete the active version of a file with versions
1. I create a new document in Project wise suing the Advanced Wizard Tool (000-00001-00149) - State is DRAFT
2. I then set this document to the APPROVED state as if it were already issued and approved.
3. I then right click on this document and create a new version of it (New, Version).
4. The new version of this document is now in DRAFT state for modification.
5. If I now decide that I do not need this Version anymore, how do I delete it without deleting the APPROVED document?
6. I right click on the DRAFT document, click delete and the message comes up.
7. If I click NO, nothing happens and both documents still exist. If I click YES, both documents are deleted
How do I just delete the version and not the latest APPROVED document?
Solution
As you can see you cannot delete an active file if it has versions as it will delete all versions as well.
So to solve the problem you need to promote the version you want to be active.
Here's how you do that.
In my scenario I have versions A,B, and C and C is my active version (the one you are trying to delete).
But I don't want to keep C and I want B to be the active version.
Right click on the active version (C) and choose new version.
In the dialog that comes up click on the 'edit' button
Provide a version number (for my scenario I used D)
Highlight version B then click change
"do you want to change this version to become the active documents" click okay.
Version D is an exact copy of B, and version C becomes a non active version.
Now you can delete version C which is the one you wanted to get rid of in the first place.
In the end you have versions A, B, and D
In your scenario, you would then need to change the state to approved for the active version.
The idea behind versions was that nothing ever gets deleted so that if needed, an old version of a document could be retrieved.

ProjectWise Deliverables Management FAQ
Cloud Services
Where can I find information about the Cloud Services?
Where do I find Information about User Management roles, for managing permissions related to projects (creating, deleting, etc)?
Where do I go for help with my account used to access the Cloud Services?
Contact your organizations site administrator, if you are unaware of who that is, contact Bentley support
Enabling ProjectWise Deliverables Management
Where do I start?
First things first, create a CONNECTED Project
Once the project is created, click on the Deliverables Management tile, and select "Turn on"
If you are not given the option to turn on, follow the instructions on the page, or contact your account manager to enable the Cloud Services for your organization
Integrating with ProjectWise Design Integration
What do I need to integrate Deliverables Management with a project in my existing ProjectWise Datasource?
You will need to install the PWDM Connector for ProjectWise Explorer. See the following link for requirements and download information
Is there a server side install?
No, nothing needs to be installed on your ProjectWise Integration Server
How do I associate a ProjectWise Design Integration Project with a CONNECTED Project?
In a ProjectWise project (not a standard folder) the properties window will have a CONNECTED project tab. Here you can associate/change/remove a CONNECTED project.
Why do I not see the "Deliverables Management" node under my project?
Make sure the PWDM Connector for ProjectWise Explorer is installed. Also, verify the project is associated with a CONNECTED project, that CONNECTED project has Deliverables Management turned on.
Settings
Where do I configure the PWDM settings?
The majority of the settings are found in the web portal for the project, browse to the CONNECTED project, click the Deliverables Management tile, the settings button can be found in the upper right corner.
The exception is when you are using PWDM integrated with PW Design Integration. The settings associated with PWDI can be found in PW Explorer, right click on the Deliverables Management Node and select settings.
What happens when I invite an external participant?
The individual will receive an email, prompting them to accept or reject the invitation to work on the project. Accepting the invitation will direct them to create a location within their organization to access the packages for that project.

Problem
Connecting to a datasource from an external network, through a Gateway server, can manually enter domain credentials and login. Using cached credentials on the machine, Single Sign On fails with error message
Error 58801 "Cannot login to the datasource Authentication failure occurred at the client machine."
Solution
Logging into ProjectWise with a Windows account, requires authentication to the domain. The way it authenticates is different, between manually typing in the user name and password (authenticates at the Integration server) and with SSO (authenticates from the client machine)
Since the domain can't be reached to authenticate with the domain directly from the client machine, then SSO will not work via the gateway server when outside the network.

Send To Options missing from PW Menu
Send To Options missing from PW Menu by Stephen Herrick
Has anyone come accross ProjectWise not displaying either the Sent To Options
Mail Recipient
Mail Recipient As Link...
This is only happening to our 64 bit os machines, it doesn't matter what PW Version. I have gone through Microsofts technotes on repairing the mapi32.dll
They do have office 2010 32 bit version installed,
TIA,
Stephen
Re: Send To Options missing from PW Menu by Molly Watts:
Stephen, I found a couple more tips about resolving the missing mapi32.dll, if these also don't work, I suggest checking with your IT department.
1) Make sure the user's mapi32.dll is not missing, or corrupt. You can download Outlook Express from Microsoft to get another copy of mapi32.dll file.
2) Check the user's win.ini file located in their C:\Windows directory. The Win.ini file is supposed to have a mail section between the [files] and [MCI Extensions.BAK] sections of the win.ini file. Below is the syntax that needs to be added.
[Mail]
MAPI=1
CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
CMC=1
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1
